Description
An t-Eilean (The Island) has been composed by John Wallace for voice (mezzo-soprano), trumpet and keyboard. It is dedicated to Norman Gillies, “a primes inter pares among the great men of Skye“, and inspired by John’s daughter, Esme, who has made her life on the island. John comments that the piece is “spinning a musical tapestry through the monumental Gaelic poetry of Sorley Maclean“.
A hauntingly beautiful vocal line supported by melodious keyboard and injections of soulful trumpet interludes, An t-Eilean offers a breath-taking scoring through this trio of sounds.
Includes full score with piano/keyboard and separate parts for mezzo-soprano voice (with lyrics in both Scottish Gaelic and English) and trumpet (in both trumpet in C and Bb).
A recording of this work is available on our 2020 album release – The Wallace Collection On Song.
