Description
Goodbye, Sweetheart, Goodbye is an intricate solo by Alexander Owen which uses the traditional form, made popular in the 19th century, of a theme with variations; now commonly referred to as an ‘air varie’. Here the piece is provided in printed format with solo part (for Bb instruments) and piano accompaniment included.
Arranged by John Wallace as a solo for cornet/trumpet/euphonium/baritone with piano accompaniment, Goodbye, Sweetheart, Goodbye is a beautiful melody which is cleverly developed and built upon through its many variations, offering the player an opportunity to really spotlight their technical and musical skills as the piece progresses.
An audio recording of this piece is also featured on our 2020 album release – The Golden Age of the 19th Century Brass Virtuoso, performed by John Wallace.
